Philippians 2:5-10 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, “who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. There God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth”

Today was a day of remembrance for me, as I think back 17 years when my mom woke me up early with a phone call to turn on the TV. I will never forgot how angry I was at her for waking me so early after my late night shift as a waitress at a bar and how quickly that angry changed to fear and anguish. I can still remember the way the second plan hit The World Trade Center and the absolute horror I felt as I watched them collapse on the TV. I couldn’t move. It was like time had frozen and so had I. I can’t even begin to imagine how the hundreds of thousands of people felt who had family or friends in those buildings or planes that day.

I also remember the days that passed and how quiet our skies were with no planes in the air. It was surreal. Something that you don’t usually notice until it’s gone.

Jeff found this video and we showed to the children. I will warn you, I have watched this video several times, and every time I end up in tears, so be prepared if you choose to watch.

We were able to have a wonderful conversation with them about loving those around us. And that we never know how long with have with our loved ones, so we need to make sure we always show them how much we love them. We need to make the most of every moment we have here with our family and friends and the same can be said about strangers, especially those with whom we do not agree. We should treat everyone with kindness and love because that is what Christ taught all of us and when we do this we are able to, hopefully, brighten someone’s day and make them feel loved.
