Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…
Today was a much better day for me. For whatever reason, I was really struggling the last two days. It was very refreshing to wake up to a new day (albeit tired from staying up way too late and visiting with Johannes!). School was good for me, but I have an affirmation that my calling is not to work with children when we get home from this year. I love children, I love my children, and I love working at the school helping; however, I am sure that my calling is not to do this as a career. I have a great appreciation for those that teach, I just know that is not for me. With that being said, I am really amazed at how much I am able to understand. I feel like I am getting most of what Ines is teaching in class now, though I still can’t speak to my student and provide any verbal support. This does make it difficult because he does not like my help in any way and is constantly pushing my hands away and hiding his work from me. Thankfully, Ines just tells me not to worry about it; he will do what he wants to do and there is not much that even she can do about it. This passage is perfect for today. It is a reminder to keep love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness at the forefront of our lives because that is how we become fruits of the spirit. Today I found myself much less frustrated and irritate with the constant slapping and pushing of my hands from my student. All I can do for him is continue to try to help, but I can’t force him to accept it. My job is to be loving, patient, and kind in everything I do and the Lord will do the rest.
After school I blanched, peeled, pitted, and sliced an entire box of peaches. I ended up making 5 bags of 4 cups each! I had a plan to make peach pie for Sunday which is Monument Day (Monument Day is a day in Germany where all of the national monuments are free to enter and most provide extra activities. Here at St. Jakobi people will come through and look at the church, but it is also an opportunity for Bell Tower Tours and for stories inside the Bell Tower, next to the bells). But we can’t find pie pans or crusts anywhere and the ones that I can find on Amazon can’t get here in time. So we needed a new plan and we decided we would instead make turnovers using Puff Pastry. So I spent a good portion of the afternoon and evening making an effort at turnovers. This first batch turned out very tasty, but not very pretty. So I will need to revisit the process and try to improve it!
