Numbers 6:24-26 The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
Lucia had her introduction to school today. All of the kids in the first class come and see a performance from the school choir and there is a play that they put on about the joys and fun in learning. Then each child has their name called, they walk up on stage to ring the bell and get a tiny Schultuete. After everyone rang the bell, Lucia joined her classmates in her new classroom while we joined families on the playground for champagne and cookies. Starting school is a very big celebration here in Germany!
I am really blown away at the generosity of the people here in Schönebeck and at St. Jakobi Kirche—Saskia is a youth from the church and she has been letting Anjali ride with her to school every day and she was kind enough to meet us at the school this morning to help with translation and to help us not to make fools of ourselves, since we had no idea what was happening. Additionally, Birgit took the time to make Lucia a beautiful Schultuete that was almost as big and she was. This whole morning was a 3 hour celebration of Lucia starting school—we do nothing like this back in the States, but it was a lot of fun to celebrate a new stepping stone!
We didn’t do much else today, just hung around town and relaxed. The Lord definitely took care of us today by surrounding us with such supportive and wonderful people. Folks that are willing to give their time to help us navigate the cultural differences that we leave us totally confused and lost! Today was a great example of how we would have totally embarrassed Lucia without the help of Saski and Birgit (I had no idea what a Schultuete was or how to make/fill it), so He put these people in our lives to help us and to care for us. The Lord has again shown His unconditional love and His desire to care for us in all aspects of our lives.
