Matthew 10:16 Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

Today we headed for Paris, though DB decided to put a little snag in our perfect plan (or maybe God was just reminding me, again, that He is in charge, not me!) when they cancelled our train to Magdeburg, where we were to catch the connecting train to Berlin. But Anjali and I just got up earlier and caught the earlier trains and all was well. We got to the airport with several hours to kill before our flight, but we had fun talking and her showing me what she and Nadia have been working on together (they have been collaborating on a “Family Tree” in which they make up a family and basically tell a story via a slide show—very creative and imaginative). Anjali was very excited about this opportunity and we followed the Nadia’s flight progress to Paris and we ended up getting to their apartment only a few hours after them.

Waiting for our plane at the Berlin Airport.

Nadia still had no idea that we were coming to visit. Andrew, Nadia’s dad, met us outside under the guise of going for a walk, and then walked us up to the apartment. We had Anjali go inside first and she stuck her head around the corner and saw Nadia sitting at the kitchen table. When Nadia saw her, she jumped up and ran to Anjali and nearly knocking her over with an embrace; it was so beautiful. Nadia was in tears, which meant that every other female was also in tears, myself included. It showed all of us how much these two girls care for each other and how difficult this time apart is for them. This was such an amazing opportunity that Jeff and I wanted to give Anjali and I am so grateful for it.

I am also forever grateful to Susan, Andrew, Jenny, and Maryann for letting us crash part of their vacation. This trip meant so much to Anjali and it was so good for her to see that even time apart can’t destroy her friendship with Nadia.
